The price of an XRF machine is only the first line in an ownership budget. Before buying, ask what it will cost to keep the instrument supported, checked and useful throughout the period you expect to own it.
Build a complete quotation
Request the exact model, analytical configuration and supplied software. Ask whether installation, operator training, reference materials and reporting functions are included. Obtain a separate list of recurring charges and optional services.
A quotation that says only “gold analyzer” leaves important questions unanswered. Two offers may have similar housings but different support arrangements or software capabilities. Compare what the supplier commits to deliver, rather than a photograph and a claimed accuracy percentage.
Give downtime a value
Ask where repairs take place, who pays shipping and whether a loan instrument is available. A low purchase price can become less attractive if an extended repair would interrupt your work. Also ask how long the supplier expects to support the model.
For illustration, divide annual ownership costs by realistic annual use. If a hypothetical setup costs $6,000 per year to own and operate and supports 1,500 relevant checks, that is $4 per check before labor. These are example figures, not an equipment quote or a prediction of savings.
Do not count uncertain benefits as cash
Faster screening can be useful, but do not assume every minute saved becomes additional revenue. Nor should you assume the instrument prevents every bad purchase. Your budget should separate measurable operating costs from benefits that depend on workload, training and the items presented.
