1/10 oz Gold Eagle vs. Gold Kangaroo: Comparing Small Gold Coins

Illustration of small gold coins with eagle and kangaroo motifs in clear capsules.

A tenth-ounce Gold Eagle and a tenth-ounce Gold Kangaroo offer the same stated fine-gold quantity in different coin formats. Compare that gold content first, then decide whether alloy, design or presentation justifies a price difference.

Fine gold is the common denominator

The Gold Eagle’s alloy and the Kangaroo’s high-purity format do not make the words “one-tenth ounce” mean different fine-gold quantities. The Eagle contains additional alloy metal, so its gross weight is not the number to compare directly with pure-gold content.

The Perth Mint identifies its 2026 tenth-ounce Kangaroo as 99.99% gold. Check the exact issue when comparing dimensions and packaging, rather than borrowing figures from a full-ounce coin.

Compare the offers in the store

Our fixed-year Eagle listing specifies 2025, while the Kangaroo listing specifies 2026 and a capsule. Those differences may matter for a dated gift or collection. They do not establish that one contains more fine gold.

Ask whether any holder shown is included. A coin’s presentation can be useful, but its cost should be considered separately from the metal.

Normalize the premium

Divide delivered price by 0.1 to express the price per fine troy ounce. This allows comparison with other sizes, although you would still be purchasing only a tenth-ounce piece.

For example, a hypothetical $480 coin equates to $4,800 per fine ounce. That calculation is not a live gold quote or a promise that buying ten coins would have identical shipping terms.

Gold Kings’ recommendation

Choose the Eagle if you prefer the American format and the specified date. Choose the Kangaroo if the Australian design, high-purity specification and supplied capsule fit your purpose. If design is secondary, prioritize the verified seller and delivered cost.

Neither purity format removes the need for careful handling. Keep the coin protected and retain its purchase details. Before paying an extra premium for either series, ask what comparable buyers currently offer rather than assuming every retail difference returns to you later.
