A repeatability check asks whether your scale gives similar results when you weigh the same load several times. It is a useful first check before weighing valuables, but it does not establish accuracy by itself.
Prepare a repeatable setup
Use a stable surface, the same weighing unit and a load comfortably within the scale’s capacity. Follow the manufacturer’s preparation instructions and keep airflow and movement to a minimum.
An appropriate reference weight is preferable because it also allows a separate comparison with a known value. If you use another stable object for a basic repeatability exercise, do not treat its unknown mass as a calibration standard.
Include any tray in the physical load calculation.
Record separate weighings
Start with the empty platform at zero. Place the load gently in the center, wait for a stable reading and write it down.
Remove the load, check the empty reading and repeat the process several times. Gold Kings suggests five trials as a simple practical starting exercise, not as a certification procedure.
Keep the placement and waiting routine consistent. If something changes during a trial, note it rather than silently discarding an inconvenient result.
Calculate the observed spread
Suppose five hypothetical readings are 10.00, 10.01, 10.00, 9.99 and 10.00 g. The difference between the highest and lowest readings is 0.02 g.
That describes this set of observations. It does not prove the true mass is 10.00 g or establish a universal acceptable tolerance.
Judge the result against the instrument’s documented performance and your intended use. A task requiring finer confidence may need a different instrument or a professional calibration.
Investigate an unexpected result
Check batteries, drafts, load position and platform clearance before making adjustments. Repeat the check after correcting one suspected cause so you can see whether it helped.
Do not hide variation by recording only the most attractive number.
Choose capacity before decimal places
The MAXUS 500 g model accommodates larger loads on paper than the 20 g GEMINI-20. The GEMINI-20 offers finer display increments within that smaller capacity.
Choose the model that fits the complete load, then verify its behavior. Repeating measurements consistently is an important part of a useful weighing routine; it is only one part of confidence in the final number.
